Travel adaptors are a convenient way for using appliances from around the world in the UK and are perfectly safe when manufactured to the appropriate British Standards and used in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
Only use travel adaptors that carry the appropriate British standard such as BS5733 and is protected by an appropriate sized fused which is BS1362 approved.
The dangerous travel adaptor shown in the image is non-UK compliant posing a serious fire and electric shock hazard, it isn't protected by a fuse and the earth pin is insulated.
